Bras
You should always wear a bra in pregnancy because your breasts are becoming progressively larger and heavier, putting a strain on the supporting, non-elastic tissues. If you don't lift some of the weight from these ligaments, they will stretch and your breasts will sag permanently.
From the time your breasts start to get bigger, around weeks 6-8, wear a bra with a deep enough band under the cups, wide, comfortable straps and an adjustable fastening.
If necessary, buy a bigger size as your breasts enlarge. If your breasts get very heavy, you may want to wear a lightweight bra at night.
If you are planning to breastfeed, by about week 36 you should buy a front-opening bra that will allow you to feed your baby easily.
Baby care shops and department stores have a wide range of styles and sizes, but if you are an unusual shape or have a narrow or wide back, see an experienced corsetier or contact one of the childbirth organisations.
You will be wearing this bra night and day for at least six weeks (buy at least two), so it needs to feel comfortable, like a second skin. You can buy some disposable or washable breast pads now in readiness. |
